Once a Christian.

I was brought up to go to Church and Sunday School and at the age of eight i made a profession of faith at seventeen I was baptised but as the years passed I have back slidden and although I attend Church I have little interest in spiritual things, even my language has a lot to be desired, sometimes I wish that I could get back to being a Christian, but I find it very difficult.

Try separating Christ's teachings and their philosophical/theological underpinnings from the brick and mortar churches and other trappings that claim to represent Christianity. Frequently, particularly in these days when some denominations have become so involved with politics rather than spirituality, there is a total disconnect, which may be what is troubling you.

Thomas Jefferson took the Bible and a pair of scissors and cut out everything that was not directly attributable to Christ through one of the original disciples who were there. He was left with a small pamphlet. It is called the Jefferson Bible and is in the Library of Congress. Unlike a current Bible printed in China carrying the name of someone who promises high tariffs on products from China and is offering it under his name for ten-fold over what it cost to print.

It is sad that Thomas Jefferson was a Deist and not a Christian. He rejected the virgin birth, the concept of original sin and the Ressurection of Jesus.

@Pfuzylogic All concepts added by others centuries after Christ.

Actually they were prophecies in the Old Testament.

You can’t make that stuff up!

@Pfuzylogic No, you can't. Which is why the early Christians for several centuries borrowed from the Old Testament and various pagan celebrations/beliefs to embellish the back story of Jesus Christ -- not Immanuel, as prophesied -- rather than simply embracing his own teachings and philosophy.

Then there is the Holy Spirit which divides those of Faith from those lacking.
The Holy Spirit is the divine inspiration for the ancient prophets and makes for one cohesive plan of Salvation since the fall of Adam. God makes a wonderful story for mankind to understand themselves. Otherwise we would be abandoned in our brokenness.
