I mean, among my mansions there is tech support, and I've heard of a customer who, at the request of "emptying their bin" after deleting a file, literally went away from the phone to empty the physical bin she had under the desk 😑
This is so true. I teach English my mother tongue online to children, teenagers, and adults in Asia. I've often found that if I talk normally and casually like an American I am not understood and I am not understood until I explicitly tell the student exactly what to do and how to do it. It isn't in me to order anyone to do anything because of my shy and reserved personality but I have to be blunt and direct assuming as you said the listener is stupid and needs to be ordered around if I want a response. It took time to build this skill though.
