Richard Dawkins on abortion [Spirituality & Religion]

@spjennifer He said this because he read a publicized journal entry from a young man who had Downs, who had expressed that he hated his disease so much that he wished his parents had terminated him as a fetus. Which is a very moving thing to read, but it's also incredibly tone deaf to assume you can say this about ALL people with Downs as if one guy's feelings affect them all.

@BlueMetalChick Yeah, i can understand the person who wrote the journal entry as they are living with the disease, it may not be the case for all people with Down's but Dawkins is still a douchesac for saying that. I would hope he would have a more intelligent response than agreeing with the person who wrote the journal entry, be sympathetic to him but don't invalidate everyone who has it.

@spjennifer A lot of his friends encouraged him to sit down with people who have Downs and talk about it with them. Because yeah, saying you should abort your baby for it is unacceptable commentary.
