I Am Spiritual But Not Religious

I have my own ways. I take inspiration, bits of different cultures, different beliefs and mold them into mine. I am picky when it comes to it, but also open minded.

That's exactly the thing to do. Make your own religion based on what you've learnt. Most people do this without realising anyhow

@Qwerty14 it is very comforting. If they all realized they do it there would be no fights, no killings because of religion, no discrimination.
@writhe Completely disagree. Religion isn't the reason people fight. Money, land and power are. As long as there are haves and have nots, there will be fighting.

@Qwerty14 this is right, the fights won't stop but they will stop using religion as an excuse and maybe that way less people will fight. Who would, for example, become a kamikaze if they weren't propagated to believe that they have to kill for their religion?
@writhe The Japanese just did it for the honour of their country. In fact most soldiers just fight because they are ordered to do so. I doubt religion even crossed their minds.

Religion in its truest sense should actually end violence. Take Christianity, it clearly says you can't kill someone. If everyone actually followed Christianity properly then there would be no more fighting.

Same for almost all other religions. Very few condone violence. The Jains for example don't even allow you to harm other animals. Not even for food.

@Qwerty14 I used the word kamikaze metaphorically, you sure have heard of suicide bombers nowadays who've attempted terrorist attacks because they were indoctrinated to believe that they should kill anyone who doesn't follow their own religion. If these people didn't have religion as an excuse, would they still do it?
@writhe Hard to know. But I don't believe extremists actually care about their religion. Like if the Islamic State didn't have Islam they'd still be a poor disenfranchised group who hates the US for causing most of their problems.

@Qwerty14 I see, thanks for your input.
