Those contemporary progressive types have obviously not experienced evil at its worst.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Silverwings What is evil at its worst?
Allelse · 36-40, M
@Silverwings Evil is a human concept, outside of our perception it simply doesn't exist. Does the wasp that plants its eggs in a paralyzed spider believe it's performing an evil act? I'm sure the spider would think so but to the wasp? It's just doing what it does to make sure its kids get a feed.

@Allelse I don't understand how you can say that? Apparently you do not have anyone close to you that has been raped, tortured, beaten and killed? To say evil does not exist is the empitome of evil.

@Allelse I guess you think that Jeffery Dahmer who dismembered 17 men and boys during his crime spree had nothing to do with evil? Maybe you need to understand what evil actually is?

@Silverwings The concept of evil 'profound immorality and wickedness, especially when regarded as a supernatural force' is a human concept, which was applied to religious institutions. But there is no 'supernatural ultimate evil' as people like to believe, it does not exist. What we view as 'evil acts' which are 'profoundly immoral and wicked' are often different depending on the society. Genital mutilation in western culture is viewed as an evil act, while in other cultures it is seen as the height of cleanliness and morality for young girls who have reached puberty. So where do we draw the line? Well, society has formed the basic principles of human rights, and that's where we draw the line and these principles must disregard religious, cultural or traditional practices. And they also disregard any ridiculous notions of 'with regard to supernatural forces' which do not exist. So when I say evil does not exist, I do not say that humans cannot commit evil acts, just that there is no ultimate evil force out there i.e the Devil or Set or any other naughty deity out there who was given the job of making mischief in the world, with regard to the religious mythology of that particular group of people. And yes I know that Set wasn't viewed in the same light as the western world likes to view the devil, but he still did chop poor old Osiris up.

Human rights -

Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that every person in the world should be entitled to. They are based on core principles such as dignity, fairness, equality, respect and autonomy.

And none of this says dick about religion or 'ultimate forces of evil'. Which do not exist.

@Allelse Well said and spot on.

@Allelse

You are wrong that there is not an evil force in the world. God gave us his image on our hearts that make us realize the truth of dignity and that murder and hate is wrong! We are not like wolves! Evil is when people hate and murder and enjoying torturing people and animals. There is evil in the world, it is clear!

Hitler was evil, and some other leaders as well. You are deceived that Satan, a fallen angel and the demons who follow him are not deceiving the entire world and influence many to hate! The most equal and happy countries are all founded on the Bible and are Christian, not Muslim, Catholic, Hindu, or Buddist!

A child has to be trained to be kind, sit in the corner when they hit another child, and taught to restrain themself and apologize. This is a Biblical concept. Teach your child the way he shall go and he will not depart from it, God says. The Bible teaches the 10 commandments; Honor your parents, do not murder, do not steal. Love your God with all your heart, mind and soul, and others as yourself. Jesus says love your enemies and pray for those who despitefully use you. This is a taught skill by patient parents to their children, and what makes a country great! not like the jungle of the fittest.

@Emosaur Apparently someone doesn't understand that Catholics are christian. Not only is Catholicism the largest christian denomination, it comprises over half of all christians.

@Emosaur

Here is a summary of why there is evil in the world, and other questions about God.
This is my understanding after studying the Bible for over 40 years!

1. Why is there evil in the world? Because God created angelic beings and human beings with a choice to love or hate. God has rules to love and not be sinful or selfish. He has consequences for sin. There is no sin in heaven at all. Satan rebelled against God and was thrown out of heaven and he is trying to win people for himself and he is a destroyer of life and deceives people into doing evil. Adam and Eve were deceived by him because he is a liar, so they were banned from paradise forever and so are their childrens children. Why are there starving children, murder, famines, earthquakes, fires, and animals starving? Because God cursed the entire creation when we sinned. And He has laws in the universe that are followed.

2. What is Gods plan for humanity? His plan is to destroy this sinful world and make a new heaven and a new earth where there are no tears. Jesus, Gods Son, came to save us so we can experience this new heaven when we die Because He loves us! Because all humans have sinned, Jesus humbled himself and came down from heaven, came to us as a baby, and lived a sinless life, proved he can raise people from the dead, and died on a cross, and was raised himself the third day. All who believe in him will be saved from the wrath to come. When the gospel has gone out to the whole world that's the end.

3.Did God know that Satan and humans would sin when he made them? Yes he had a plan to win people for himself to live in heaven with him. He wants us to tell people about his salvation plan to get to heaven when we die.

4. Does God hear all prayers? NO he does not! We are banned from his presence. He is very clear in Romans and other verses he does not hear the ungodly's prayers, only the Godly's prayers.

5. How do we get God to hear our prayers? We repent our sins, and believe in Jesus who died for humanities sins. Then the Holy Spirit comes into your heart and you are saved. Then he hears your prayers. But he wont answer them unless you have faith and are obedient to his word. If you have prayers that are unanswered it is because either you are not obedient, or you do not have enough faith, or God is teaching you something, or he has a better plan for you. We should always pray for Gods will in our prayers because he knows best. Often we grow through hard times. Thank God for the hard times too!

6. Why does God not kill Satan now? Or destroy all evil now? God is soon going to burn up the world and ALL evil, but he is waiting for the gospel to go out to the whole world and people to repent and be saved first. He is watching who is doing his will loving people to christ. Then Jesus will come back and all saved will go to heaven and the ungodly judged by Jesus for every evil thought and deed.

7. How does God want us to live? He wants us to love God and treat people the way we want to be treated ourselves. He wants us to be thankful for everything!

8. How to handle it if someone hurts us? Jesus says to love our enemies, and pray for those who despitefully use us! But we should not yolk together with unbelievers.

9. Is the Bible accurate? Yes! It has been proven accurate. Some people say it has errors but they have misunderstood those verses. The Bible is the most respected history Book by historiens than any other book at universities.

10. How do I become successful in life? If you follow the Bible to love God, and people, and give first to him in money and time you will be successful, it is Gods promise!

I hope and pray you will heed Gods word in the Bible!

@Emosaur
So how do you explain successful non-Christians?
Also, how do they explain unsuccessful christians?
