General epistles (also called Catholic Epistles) are books in the New Testament in the form of letters. The letters attributed to Paul are not included. Listed in order of their appearance in the New Testament, the General Epistles are: 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3 John, and Jude.

First things first. If you are going to just grab the Bible and read it without knowing Jesus as your Savior, you would be going about it all wrong. You can, but it won't Have much meaning for you if you can't understand it. In order to understand scripture, one must have accepted Jesus as their Savior, at which time the Holy Spirit is given to you as a gift from God, and which in turn, as your teacher, helps you to understand the things of the spirit, that is written in God's Word.
