Does the god of the bible allow human sacrifice or the sacrifice of children? [Spirituality & Religion]

Think of this as book club for me. I'm reading through the bible and discussing the things i find there.

@Pikachu Well I think you are pursuing a logical analysis of a written work that holds a very different meaning to a lot of people on here - and while I am completely onboard with atheism and all, I think maybe this choice of discussion topic could be done a little differently, if you truly wanted their honest opinion on it.

I do want their honest opinion because if i think it isn't borne out by the scripture then i want to challenge them on it. Robust debate is kinda my bag lol.

But i'm happy to hear suggestions on how you think i ought to have approached this subject.

@Pikachu But why do you want their opinion? To me it seems like you are covering religion-bashing up in literal interpretations of biblical texts, and confronting people with practices which noone - or very, very, very few people on the planet practice.

In my view you are picking out a debate topic which holds very little relevance because the topic you have chosen is not of practical importance in today's world.

And this is what I do not understand. To me it seems the only aim here is to create a heated exchange of words or frustrating religious people who are not guilty of child sacrifices. And I have very little sympathy for that, because we need to find common ground across cultures, dreams, hopes and visions in order to move forward as a species - not dig trenches.

If, by chance, someone believes in god (or if they don't, who cares), and they do start sacrificing children. I will do my part in bringing the hammer down on them - but not because of any religious motive, but because of the illegal nature of the activity in which they are involved.

@Pikachu And I think I should speak with some gravity on the whole non-religious vs religious people thing. I take a ton of shit from religious people who think the T next to my name is direct evidence that I am the re-incarnation of the devil.

If I can stay on my feet and see them as individual morons (whose definition of heaven I am thrilled not to share with them) - so can you.

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion. You're quite wrong but you've been polite to me so i will take the time to explain myself to you just once more.

I'm not bashing religion. I'm reading the bible (and enjoying it) as a good book. I am discussing what i find there as i come across it.
I am asking questions and making criticisms and i insist on a robust defense of any claim or answer supplied in these threads.
This is nothing new. The tagline on my profile makes this expectation explicit.

There are things in the bile which i find genuinely horrifying and i'm not afraid to express that or challenge people's acceptance of those things. Too many people see this as malicious, as hateful, as an attack.
I can't help that.

I don't bash religion or paint christians with one brush.
I address each one of them on an individual basis. Some prove that they are to debate in good faith and others show me that they're just mad at me for daring to question things they feel are above questioning.
As you put it, i can see them as individual morons😉 lol

@Pikachu Well by that, I just think you are digging a trench because the topic you chose holds very little practical relevance. But it's a free world, and I'm not going to tell you not to. I'll instead give you a ticket to an alternative train of thought (finding relevant topics), which you can then decide whether or not there's any sense in it or not.
