Why weren't the Israelites able to conquer some of the cities in the promised land? [Spirituality & Religion]
God promised to give over all their enemies to them as long as they remained obedient. And aside from an unfortunate event in the city of Ai which was rectified by killing the guilty party and his entire family, they do.
So why are there a few instances where they Israelites were unable to drive the enemy from their domain? The Canaanites, Geshure, Maacah and the Jebusites apparent;y could not be removed and continued to live among the Israelites.
*Never mind, this is answered in Judges

Oh but the Israelites were made to wander for 40 years as a punishment. It wasn't because they couldn't find their way. The meme is funny but misinformed.
@Pikachu Or perhaps it's just easier to claim that a magical being was punishing you, rather than admit to your cult getting lost in the desert for decades. Lol
Could be. Probably not though considering the nation of Israel was at that time comprised of hundreds of thousands of people and the land they were traveling to was already known to them, their ancestors having arrived from there. Just pointing out that inaccuracy of the meme.
It's entirely inaccurate. It says that they wandered for 40 years guided by yahweh. That's wrong. They wondered for 40 years as punishment by yahweh.
It's wrong no matter how you look at it. Either their god is real and they wandered as punishment or their god is not real and yahweh was not guiding them.
Absence of proof isn't proof of absence🙂 Scientifically speaking, a lack of evidence doesn't prove a thing doesn't exist, it simply does not support the existence of that thing.
You assert (and i agree) that the burden of proof lays on the one making the claim. You made a claim: god isn't real.
So can you prove that or do you fail to meet your burden of proof as the claimant?
The question of my original post is posed within the context of the story. It makes no claim about god's existence. And this is obvious when one takes a moment to examine the question:
If god were not real and did not promise victory to his followers then the fact that the Israelites failed to capture some cities is not surprising. No one wins every time. So within the context of the story, i wonder why they failed to capture these cities. No claim of god's existence.
Deflection denied. So can you prove that god is not real or do you fail to meet your burden of proof as the claimant?
