Mark 1:32 ...

"That evening, at sunset, people brought to Jesus those who were sick or demon-possessed. The whole town gathered near the door. He healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases, and he threw out many demons. But he didn’t let the demons speak, because they recognized him.

Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer. Simon and those with him tracked him down. When they found him, they told him, 'Everyone’s looking for you!'

He replied, 'Let’s head in the other direction, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.'...

@Heartlander Thank you so much for sharing this passage!

:) Just a reference to Jesus's behavior.

When people were looking for him he headed in another direction. Why didn't he just stay and heal all the sick and chase all the demons away?
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

@Heartlander Because it wasn't time for him to die yet. He had work to do so he asked them to keep it quiet for a little longer.

:) 1984 has come and gone, except in North Korea where the calendar seems to be stuck there. But the calendar and clock seems to be running backwards in a few places, so they still have a chance.

@Carazaa ... and/or maybe there's a bigger picture to his role? Like to inspire us to heal the sick? And drive out the demons?
Carazaa · F
@Heartlander And I do drive out demons! But that's not why he left. He said that it was not his time yet. He knew that once they heard he was God in the flesh they wanted to kill him.
Carazaa · F
@Harriet03 Cat in the Hat did not claim to be God, and raise people from the dead!

Do you have evidence that Cat in the Hat isn't a god?

Very good point. :) In accordance with @GodSpeed63's "logic", it is for non-believers to prove Cat in the Hat isn't a god.

@Heartlander Because they were out to kill Him and in His wisdom, knew it was time to leave. Also, the Holy Spirit directed Him to teach in other places.

And even if they do find proof somehow it's irrelevant because what you need is faith, not evidence.

"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that something so mind-bogglingly useful [as the Babel Fish] could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.

The argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith, I am nothing.' 'But, says Man, the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.' 'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and vanishes in a puff of logic."

@LadyGrace One thing that always gets me is how you all say he tests people, or he knew they were out to get him and it was time to leave..yet he is omniscient, knowing all of this well in advance correct, he knows I was going to write this even, so..he does all this, knowing that the humans will fail the tests..or.."kill your son".."nah..don't, I was just testing you"..so what it boils down to for me, is even if you proved without a shadow of a doubt that he existed I wouldn't worship him, because the blokes a dick, a bored child burning ants with a magnifying glass
Carazaa · F
@Bushmanoz Would you die to take the punishment for someone that mocks and hates you? You would not even pay the parking ticket for someone who hated you and mocked you, never mind dying on a cross for anyone at all. So don't talk about God like that, Jesus is loving when you don't deserve it. And he blesses and he curses so be careful what you say.
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
@Carazaa He did all this of his own making, knowing in advance what would happen. he is omniscient! I can "spew out" what ever I like..free will remember. I'm not scared about being judged. When I die it's all over, which is the whole point. For me, I live the best I can now, not believing in some made up paradise that awaits..nor doing things that I can simply atone for on my death bed feeling I get a free pass, I'm accountable for my actions now. Even if it turned out there was a hell, I will be happy there, it's where all the fun people will be, and anyone who's dealt with pain knows there is only so much you can dish out before it has no affect, so fire and brimstone..not a scary prospect on any level
Carazaa · F
@Bushmanoz I am so sorry that you have had your share of pain. I really am. I care, and so does God!
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
@Carazaa You ruined what could have been a lovely thing to say. I appreciate your part of the statement, but, to say a god I don't believe is even real cares is insulting.

And I do drive out demons! But that's not why he left. He said that it was not his time yet. He knew that once they heard he was God in the flesh they wanted to kill him.

I think the reason was far broader. If God was to himself heal everyone, drive out all the deamons, permanently fix all that's wrong, that would have taken away the role of "free will". It would have put God in charge of our lives rather than us in charge of our lives. His healing of the sick was a demonstrating of his power. The demonstration of power was also to flush out self-serving hypocrisy. By broadening his appeal, he set the stage for his own death.
