Anyone ever had an out of body experience ? [Spirituality & Religion]

I have a friend who claimed this is in fact possible. I was sceptical but who am I to say it is or is not possible !?

Yes I’ve had one before when I was in highschool

@Effloresce what happened ? How long did it last ?

I woke up in the middle of the night one time with a really odd feeling. I remember staring out my window and seeing this weird glowing light rising up from my outside. I remember feeling like I wasn’t in my body anymore while I stared at the light, and I felt completely at peace for a second. Then it ended after a few minutes and I was super confused lol@John2019

Yes. I died during the birth of my son.

@John2019 my pelvis separated. I heard bells, and felt myself lift up. I looked down, and I could see them working on me. There was peace, warmth; a great feeling of love. I could feel the presence of someone great surrounding me. I begged to go back to my baby.

@SW-User what did you do ? Did you move around the room ?
SW-User
@John2019 I stood still; it was like I was projected to this place. It's hard to explain the beauty of it..it's like all the happiness in life was there..music I can't describe, warmth, love, and peace. I could see my Mom in the waiting room, my sister, and all I wanted was to go back to my son; I couldn't stand the thought of him having no mother. 😭

during sleep paralysis

@John2019 It never lasts longer than a minute but I have hallucinations I think are real, including people who aren't there. I can't move, which is really scary especially if I wake up in some awkward position where I can't breathe.

The dream reality intrudes and there's another world at a 90 degree angle to the outside. It threatens to suck me back in unless I fight to get out.

@SW-User wow sounds terrifying

@John2019 When it first happened to me, I thought that I had had a stroke and this would be the rest of my life, which really was terrifying. It wasn't so bad once I knew what was happening, but it's never a good time.

once. Ages ago.
John2019 · 41-45, M
@revenant what caused it to happen ?

@John2019 It was a time when I hardly slept at all. Bad insomnia. But I remember the whole thing happened like the most natural thing in the world..but I never could again unfortunately.

Maybe we don't know half of what is possible
People absolutely have out of body experiences...they're just not actually leaving their bodies.
It's pretty much lucid dreaming.

I've had a few with severe sleep deprivation. I recognise it from the way people describe it, but the descriptions aren't exactly what happens (for me, anyway).

People talk about floating above themselves, but for me it was more about having a perspective that was outside myself. It's not that I could see myself, more that I was aware of myself from an external locus.
John2019 · 41-45, M
@GlassDog what was it like for you ?
GlassDog · 46-50, M
@John2019 It's always very positive and I enjoy it much more than any of the other symptoms of severe sleep deprivation. You don't see yourself with your eyes. You just get the impression you are outside yourself and you can actually locate and sense yourself at a distance, just not see yourself. I'm convinced there is nothing supernatural or spiritual about it and that it is just one of the functions of our brain when in an abnormal state.

He experiences them regularly in the morning after waking up. He never nearly died
Yes..It just can't be explained.

@Elandra77 fair enough
A friend of mine who had surgery, she said she was above herself looking down as they were operating on her, she explained to the surgeon what she saw and he confirmed it was true, she even repeated a comment he made during her surgery...

Yes...save your time and know it's true.
SW-User
i heard it too
I didn’t experience anything when I stopped breathing and my heart stopped beating briefly during surgery years ago. It was just like the deepest sleep I’d ever known.
