I wish I wasn't an atheist. I deeply envy people who have faith in an afterlife. [Spirituality & Religion]

It causes me a great deal of anxiety and stress when I begin to think about what happens to people I love when they die, and what will eventually happen to me too. I wish so badly I could feel safe and confident that, even though death is hard, my loved ones will be just fine, and so will I, and we'll eventually be together again, happy and secure.

Why is a belief in God and the belief in an afterlife connected? I believe in God, but I really don't believe in an afterlife. I try to live a good life, do good deeds, for the sake of the deeds and those who I impact. I don't do them to gain anything!

@samueltyler2 Christianity has shifted the focus towards an afterlife.

@samueltyler2 The two don't necessarily have to be connected but they usually are. And I'd love to believe in an afterlife but not in a god.
