Is it hard to be a modern, empowered woman who loves and follows the bible? [Spirituality & Religion]

The bible is very clear about what a woman's place is in the hierarchy of the home and the church.

Is it difficult for a bible believing christian woman to reconcile the teachings of the bible with the modern notion that women should be equal to men in all things?

Bible never said we were slaves.
@SW-User

Sure. But it is very specific that women are to be subservient
SW-User
@Pikachu Depends on which version you are reading.The old testament isnt the one I follow.
SW-User
@Pikachu Most people only read the old testament to know about the interactions between god and the world.The newer version is more updated to our times and much less harsher
@SW-User

Well the apparent sexism in the bible is by no means confined to the old testament.
But even if it were, jesus is pretty clear that the old law is not to be ignored.
SW-User
@Pikachu Present me it at least.The old testament is very harsh.Very.
In the end god does not look at a woman as less than.He loves us all equally.Even the sinners.

@SW-User the first anti woman verse I think of when the subject comes up is first Timothy 2:12. That's new testament.

You'll also notice a lack of Jesus ever saying that rape is wrong or that the old testament rules treating women as property are wrong or that a woman has equal rights as a man. Speaking of human rights, he fails to condemn slavery in any sense.
@SW-User

Present what? Sexism in the new testament or jesus' command not to ignore the old law?
SW-User
@SW-User
Thats the way i see it.

The new testament represents the new covenant between man and God..

The old testament was about the first covenant before the coming of the son of God and his sacrifice for our sins...
SW-User
@Doomflower Galatians 3:28

28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Deuteronomy 22:23-29 If an engaged woman is raped out in the country, only the man will be put to death. 26 Do not punish the woman at all; she has done nothing wrong, and certainly nothing deserving death. This crime is like murder, 27 because the woman was alone out in the country when the man attacked her. She screamed, but there was no one to help her.

@Pikachu Men and women are very much equal.God doesnt condone abuse on anyone.At least not my God.

To be submissive doesn't mean she becomes a carpet
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@SW-User yeah and if she is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough for help she is also to be put to death. There's no way that could go wrong.

Also Deuteronomy is old treatment. By your own logic it doesn't count.

So slavery is ok since both slave and master are the same to jesus? Interesting. What version of which canon do you use?
SW-User
@Pikachu Submission also is much different in the bible from the way most people observe it and look at it.

We serve God according to the bible.But it does not mean we cant do what others can't.
And the basic rules of the bible are very simple.
SW-User
@Doomflower What they meant by that was not that if no one heard her she was to be put to death.There is the woman who is raped in this quote and there is the other woman who did not cry out.
There would be no use in giving us two examples of women who were raped.Rape is bad.In the bible it also states not to abuse your wife or sexually abuse children.
As it's horrible.

They didnt give us examples of two raped women.
But one that represents the woman who was raped and one side that represents the one who wasnt but was willing
@SW-User

Well i thought you said you didn't pay attention to the old testament?

"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says."

1 Corinthians 14:34-35

"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."

Ephesians 5:22-24

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent"

1 Timothy 2:11-12
SW-User
@Doomflower No.There are no slaves.Even if you are a slave in life.Or a free man.Or a man
or a woman
Under god you are equal and equally loved.

You are not a slave to God.You arent forced into it.Just likr how atheists choose not to believe.Christians chose to believe
so its not slavery.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
Also please keep in mind the context of Galatians. It goes on to say in 3:29 IF YOU BELONG TO CHRIST then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise. Galatians is a justification for non Jews to join up in this "new" religion.
SW-User
@Doomflower And I said before that I follow one but I read the other as well.Because the old treatment is an account of interactions between god and the world.I never stated I didnt read the old testament
SW-User
@Doomflower Regardless.It does state that rape is wrong.And that all are equal.
That is my point.
SW-User
@Doomflower And I will leave it at that since I have to study.
As for what you believe.I dont mind.Because I was an atheist, and a catholic.Many things.
I can firmly understand where you come from and I think atheism is just as beautifully chosen as any other path in life.
@SW-User

Maybe all are equal in christ but all are NOT equal in the way they are commanded to live amongst one another.
SW-User
@Doomflower I was even a satanist.So I totally get where your views comes from because Ive experienced atheism, Satanism as well as being a catholic and then back to Christianity.I wont try to convince you Im right because that would be wrong of me and it doesnt matter what you choose to me
SW-User
@Pikachu 🤷‍♀️All are equal in christ.Yessss.Yesss.If you studied the bible then that is synonymous with all is equal.
And sometimes we are "against" each other.But that is the cost of free will.
SW-User
@Pikachu Free will means people will do bad things.To give people free will means you cant interfere when they do bad things or that beats the purpose.

That is why people end.up as they are and things are not peaceful.
And a reason why living amongst eachother as we are isnt always equal.Because humans made it that way.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@SW-User it is amusing to watch the mental gymnastics required by people of faith.

Consider the implications in Deuteronomy 22. So a woman in the field can meet her lover and say he raped her if they are caught but if she is coerced into sex in town she is punished for being raped because it is assumed that if she didn't scream she consented and someone in town would have heard her.

You also seem to be fine with ignoring how women who had their hymens broken before marriage had to depend on the good will of their husbands. If they didn't habe proof (a bloody sheet) their husband could claim she wasn't a virgin and have her killed.

Cherry picking at its finest.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@SW-User actually it states that rape is the same as property damage. If you rape or have sex with a virgin who isn't betrothed you have to pay her dad 50 shekels. What's the going rate on modern virgins I wonder?
