Why did God create Atheists? [Spirituality & Religion]

There is a famous story told in Chassidic literature that addresses this very question. The Master teaches the student that God created everything in the world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson.
One clever student asks “What lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did God create them?”
The Master responds “God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all — the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs an act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that God commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right.”
“This means,” the Master continued “that when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say ‘I pray that God will help you.’ Instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no God who can help, and say ‘I will help you.’”
—Martin Buber, Tales of Hasidim Vol. 2 (1991)

God gave everyone free will, that's why some go to Hell, for their bad judgements.
@Dan193

Do they deserve to go to hell?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Pikachu people that go to Hell for their bad judgements? Yes.
@Dan193

Define "bad judgements".
Does that include people who just don't believe that god is real? Because they're going to hell as well.
Do they deserve to be tortured forever?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Pikachu I don't think I'm the one who can say who deserves to go to Hell. But by bad judgements I meant doing bad things out of bad decisions in their lives.
@Dan193

In your judgement do the people i described deserve hell? Because that's where they're going.
By any standard of morality and justice known to you, is that a proportionate punishment?

@Pikachu Personally, I don't think being an atheist automatically sends u to Hell. It's more of how you live your life and the kindness you share with others, is what decides where you ultimally go. I think mainly that's what all religions are about.
@Dan193

Then you're not reading your bible.
No one comes to the father but through me

@Pikachu oh ok, well I guess I'm sorry for misleading all those atheist I had ever spoken to 😅
@Dan193

Not sure what you're talking about. I'm just pointing out that the god of the bible appears content to send people to hell for no other reason than that they don't believe.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Pikachu so I was apologising for misleading (telling them what I just told you about my view on going to Hell) all those poor atheists that I have ever told this.
@Dan193

Well ok lol. Thanks for chatting🙂
