Why did God create Atheists? [Spirituality & Religion]

There is a famous story told in Chassidic literature that addresses this very question. The Master teaches the student that God created everything in the world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson.
One clever student asks “What lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did God create them?”
The Master responds “God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all — the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs an act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that God commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right.”
“This means,” the Master continued “that when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say ‘I pray that God will help you.’ Instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no God who can help, and say ‘I will help you.’”
—Martin Buber, Tales of Hasidim Vol. 2 (1991)

The way I see it, God gave us free will. We only have one life and it's temporary. I'd rather take the chance to believe. I believe he created atheists but it's their own rights and choices to not believe.
@SW-User

But if you are not convinced by the evidence that god, specifically the god of the bible is real, how does one choose to believe that he is?

First ask yourself why you don't believe. My former atheist friend told me he didn't believe because he didn't want a life weighed down with religious burdens and a strict God... So he couldn't believe in a God like that. If one believes that is the true God then it makes sense that one would not wish to believe in him. I believe that the God we have is merciful and understanding of our struggles. I'll always believe. Im sorry if my words offer little help or make little sense. In the end it is your own choice. 🙂

My belief is not based on what i WANT to be true. I don't want to die and be gone forever. I don't want to never see my loved ones again. If i could choose what i believed then i would choose to believe that i'll live in paradise forever with my friends and family.
The reason i don't believe is because there's no compelling evidence to do so. Certainly no compelling evidence to specifically accept the god of the bible as real.

In the end it is your own choice.
No. It isn't. Like i said in the beginning: if you can choose to believe that which you do not believe then you can do something that i can't.
I wonder if i deserve to be tortured forever because of that...

I have better things to do in life than believe in a comic book

God gave everyone free will, that's why some go to Hell, for their bad judgements.

@Pikachu so I was apologising for misleading (telling them what I just told you about my view on going to Hell) all those poor atheists that I have ever told this.
@Dan193

Well ok lol. Thanks for chatting🙂

I’m Looking forward to hell away from religious nut cases
@Sueisright

Not me. If hell is real then it's pretty goddamn bad. I'd much rather live in heaven with an eternity of "i told ya so" than be tortured forever.

An atheist is just a fool who fell for another one of Satan’s lies, instead of his Christianity one, now that’s the asshole you should be pissed at..
