Why am I afraid to try to meditate? [Spirituality & Religion]

I know you can't answer this for ME personally, but that is one of the most burning questions I have. Why am I so afraid of my own mind?

You abhor change seemingly.

@YMITheWayIM Whoa! Externally I crave it and have made lots of changes to my life, but maybe you're on to something deeper. Thanks for that answer.

@Dionysus Major change, not an impulsive move. But you know better.

So many insightful and helpful comments in this question. Feeling very grateful that I asked!

@Dionysus glad I could help

you are not afraid of meditation. your mind is afraid of it. meditation is the death of the mind. and your mind makes you believe that you would look stupid if meditate because it might not give any results. meditation is being here and now and mind is all about the past and the future running from the one to the other

@Emarky my mind thinks I'll discover something I can't handle if I stop the distractions
Emarky · 31-35, M
the thing is your mind is the distraction. and instead being under your control you became a slave of your own mind. as we all did.

and what do you think might be so dangerous to discover?
Dionysus · 41-45, F
@Emarky I don't know. lol It's an intense fear that my mind has, but one I feel I must get over.

The GOLD is the silence. ...

The aim is still - then you know straight away to end the endless mind chatter ...the chatter that traps you in.

Try with healing music meditations - then visualization of peaceful places you love

Mind peace is possible - its honest place away from your EGO and past events that trap you in. ..
Dionysus · 41-45, F
@SoFine Cant wait to get there. I've been practicing on quieting the incessant thoughts through out the day and it is really hard. I must have had to redirect myself like 100 times today, but I see myself getting closer.

Thank you for the advice!

@Dionysus keep it up - we worry less when the mind is still. ..

hi Deesmiss
Stopping your mind is unconventional. It is hard to do at first. You are used to avoiding yourself. You have keeping busy syndrome. Anyway n nothing to fear because when your mind stops churning the feeling is very pleasant - just unconventional. This is true of everyone,
Best wishes

Lots of people are, you're not alone. Ever met someone that can't shut the fuck up or who's mind just never seems to stop going?
Elegy · 46-50
@Dionysus Some choose to medicate, others accept it and work with it. Some of course just suffer. It would be great if you could just get it under wraps.
Dionysus · 41-45, F
@Elegy thank you and yes, it's time.

@Dionysus Meditation would probably be a great first step. It would suck a first =but with time and practice I bet it would become easier.

Been there and stopped because as it turns out I should be afraid of my own mind.
