Totally agree with the bad covers although Mad World works for me. I like the tempo. And I think both that and the Hendrix versions are more popular than the original. Hendrix especially. Think I'm still on board with the film version of Man of Constant Sorrow though Love that song. And it's old. I remember reading that the guy first recorded it, over a 100 years ago, lost his sight.. Always wondered if that influenced the decision for the record producer in the movie being blind.
I'd toss Twist and Shout in there too. The original was cool but the Beatles version is very different and really tight. Respect by Aretha is another fav. She really captured it.
Worst ever for me might be William Shatners' Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. He was serious about it too. ouch. :)

@bijouxbroussard William Shatner recorded a spoken version of Rocket Man.
@Jacko1971 Yes, I remember. 😊
Totally agree on Watchtower. Neutral on Love is All Around and Constant Sorrow.
Totally agree on the bad covers.

Here's a cover of Thunder Road for your perusal. I won't call it better than Bruce, but it's an interestingly different spin.

Also, Miley Cyrus does Pink Floyd! I never paid her much attention until I came across this gem. I hope she does more like it!

[@bijouxbroussard, I love the Jimi Hendrix, neutral on Wet Wet Wet, and don't know the others you like. Unlike you, I really like the Disturbed version of The Sound Of Silence.

@TryingtoLava I've not listened to anything else - can't bear to SEE him lol but the voice is excellent!
@ArtieKat o jeez dont get me started on their music vids its a train wreck but give the album a try ONLY that album thou hahah
@ArtieKat And you’ll notice I acknowledged I figured I was in the minority with both Disturbed and Gary Jules covers. I just remember the times when Simon & Garfunkel and later, Tears for Fears were popular. Their versions captured those distinct times in a way the covers just couldn’t.

I'm in the minority as well.
My all time favorite cover is "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen" by Santana (covering both Fleetwood Mac and Gabor Szabo).
My least favorite cover is Manfred Mann's cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded By The Light"...butI'm not a big fan of any of Manfred Mann's covers.

@DragonFruit Good call with Black Magic Woman. They made that song their own.

Whatsamatter friend??!! Its Friday 🤸 and you post a few covers and everybody is avoiding you like halitosis ..is that whats troubling you..well hold your head up high,take a walk in the sun🌞...

Bob Dylan said famously the Hendrix owned All Along the Watchtower,it was his song✅

As for Love is All Around,I like REMs live cover and even Bill Nighys version in Love,Actually✅

As a matter of fact the only one I might quibble with you is The Sound of Silence (which is my unpopular opinion,I think that the original was darker by playing it straight..have a wonderful weekend🤗

@bijouxbroussard I WAS kidding...riffing on this classic🤓

2 big hits in the UK in the 80s. Both were hits for American band Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes on the 70s.

I agree with the ones you dislike. I don't want to hear anyone singing a Michael Jackson song besides Michael Jackson. And i feel that way about sound of silence too.
