After this I’m going to try to stop beating this particular dead horse…

But regarding Charlie Kirk…
I’m not celebrating his death. I am amazed at the irony by which it occurred because one rarely sees such karma in real time. I hadn’t thought about him before the shooting, and he likely won’t remain in my thoughts once he’s out of the news.

But to folks like the fellow yesterday who called me "evil and cruel" and wished me harm because I can’t quite love my enemies (and who demonstrated he’s no different):

Suppose this had happened to Louis Farrakhan or Al Sharpton ? Would you be urging all this compassion and empathy for their loved ones ? Call me skeptical; I know my countrymen.

I would.

When it comes to controversial public figures who meet with violence, their familes face all of the grief and usually deserve none of the blame. Ordinary human decency means you respect their loss.

But I've got to say that regardless of the all the angry, sad, confused, and deceitful reactions playing out in such predictable ways - This latest crime will change nothing.

The infection we've allowed to grow in our politics will have to burn itself out like a sick fever.

@GuiltyBiStander i would normally agree 100%, but this political situation is very different. It includes terrible misinformation, an attempt to rewrite history, and is placing the US into an existential crisis. I do feel badly for the children, his spouse however was part of his efforts, and from what I read, he and she managed to gain a "small fortune," from his political activity.
