I often wonder what trolls are like in real life when they can't hide behind anonymity

What goes on in someone's life that prompts them to act like this, when they can't hold a simple conversation without feeling the insecure need to take it in these directions.
My wtf SW moment of the day.

They are known as trolls online and in real life, they are that school bully, the playground punk, the jealous ones who laugh at you because it's how they handle their insecurity, the ambitious officemate who likes spreading lies just to get ahead of everyone, that weird neighbor who loves causing conflicts, or those "Karen" and "Ken" ( the male version) who just have this strange need to antagonize the people around them if they can't have their way.

These are spiritually crippled people lacking intellectual and emotional maturity. They are desperate for attention, like a child jumping up and down trying to get anyone to look at them, because they've felt ignored all their lives. They attack people online because anonymity affords them liberty from being accountable for their actions ( something that in real life would garner them a solid punch in the face). They thrive on hurting people's feelings because they lead very miserable lives themselves and in their confused minds, it's their way of getting back at society. It's a doomed existence full of rejection, loneliness and ultimately , a wasted life due to the hate that lives within them...unless they change.

Talking about trolls, watch out for one that's currently doing his rounds around here, that bugbrain fellow ( name is something similar) . Does nothing but bother and attack people here daily. I haven't yet crossed words with him and for his sake, he'd better not bother me or he will run away, tail between his legs, finally aware of how insignificant and small he is after I'm done with him lol. Yep haha...I don't let trolls have their way😄
@LilMissAnonyMOUSE You're so very welcome :)

@LilMissAnonyMOUSE In short... bullies and cowards?
@ArishMell They certainly are.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Ive had run ins with this user. He goes out of his way to insult people unprovoked. He adopts racist and misogynist viewpoints to anger people. I would love to meet him irl. He must be an extremely bitter and unhappy person. He is extremely judgmental of everyone;it would be fascinating to see his life. In fact, he is so over the top, his insults only discredit himself.
Piper · 61-69, F
I've wondered about that, too. I suspect a fair amount of those who entertain themselves by antagonizing, mocking and insulting others online, aren't much different in their offline lives. Certain ones I picture like this:
@Piper Definitely

I can only imagine they're at least slightly miserable and have to repress it IRL.

I have someone that creates a new alt about once or twice a month and makes rude comments on what I share. I can tell it's the same person. Their maturity level keeps them from actually getting a dig in.

I feel nothing for these trolls and if they met me IRL they'd meet my fist or my 12 gauge.

That's exactly what you need to keep in mind. They're miserable people who act out online because they can't do it in real life. It's the coward's way. The person who's stalking you must have no life.

Besides the personal attack attempts they are not wrong. But neither are you. However their message feels like a big self hate projection.

What they could have said. When it comes to anxiety many people are calmed down by the thought that we are grains in the sand or like particles in the space. From that perspective we are so small and insignificant nothing compared to the universe, and there's a freedom in that to some.
He's fat, watches porn, and stuffs his face with Cheetos.
@Teslin I imagine Joy Behar on the View.
Teslin · M
@NativePortlander1970 LOL, I will have to Google her, I don't know who she is?
@Teslin You're in for a surprise then, she makes Rob Reiner seem moderate.
They are not trolls in real life because they cannot be picking up B trolls in real life because then they are in arms reach. And we know what to do when someone is awful with an arms reach don’t we😈
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
That's just an opinion though. I wouldn't call it trolling. This one in particular probably feels to be the person he just described and wants you to feel the same.
Generally speaking, it seems to me that many so called "trolls" tend to make someone feel uncomfortable in their own skin, or the so called "troll" states a truth that someone is running away from. Then that someone hangs a troll label on an individual to make themselves feel better. Just my observance.

Or think they are while the other person laughs and thinks 'wtf?'
I'd call it insecurity: the need to lift up oneself by putting someone else down. And it's easy to do when you're not standing face to face.
People who are secure in themselves don't need to do this.
@robingoodfellow Well, that's the trouble with the internet. Everyone "thinks they are" one thing or another. Self unawareness is rampant on social media, especially among the self righteous.
calicuz · 51-55, M
These are the kind of guys who see themselves as superior when they in fact are the ones still living in their mother's basement, drinking monsters, and believing they have a real "connection" with that girl on Only Fans. They live sad, sad lives.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@calicuz I think if I met this fucker in real life he would shit his pants.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn

He certainly would. 😂
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
The sad thing is that Ive seen some "normal" users heart and thumbs up his comments. Want to be trolls
@JimboSaturn I see users who seem to be here just to fight with people. I can't imagine using the finite hours of my life in that way.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@robingoodfellow lol one of the enlightened things Ive heard
Teslin · M
Yup, I agree with you. If you don't have something positive to say, shut the f' up.
bunnieivy · 18-21, F
When I bully someone on the internet and they tell me to show my face:
bunnieivy · 18-21, F
@JimboSaturn I bully people and I show my face everywhere, so falseee!!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@bunnieivy Ill have to see if you are a bona fide troll though
ArtieKat · M
@JimboSaturn
They never show their face or reveal any details of their own life
For those reasons they are even more cowardly than playground bullies.

Maybe a little self reflection is necessary for those who invest so much energy on discussing and analyzing trolls.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
Trolls are probably shy little geeks that still live at home with mommy!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@fanuc2013 Some may be like that but it does not excuse their behaviour, and some are utterly evil.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Perhaps it depends on what bridges they manage to find......
Lostpoet · M
I know who you are.
I rhink it varies.
Chickie · F
I realized that internet trolls and power tripping mods are losers in life and it shows.
NinaTina · 26-30, F
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
They aren’t like that in real life

My brother is an IRL troll. He can't have a conversation without saying something racist, phobic or pro trump. So yeah the bad ones really can't stop even in real life.
You can always tell when somebody's just playing with an alt account. They don't bother with a profile picture, because they know the account will be gone soon.
They troll the shit out of their own family, my dead uncle was notorious for it.
