I normally don't do rants, but this has just been bothering me.

There is a local restaurant here that specializes in breakfast. Normally they make a fabulous sausage gravy. Twice now in the last month the sausage has been pink. Pink sausage is raw. The first time I said something the waitress gave me a dumb look and said "well it tasted good didn't it?". The second time the waitress took my plate back to the kitchen to show the cook. She came back saying the sausage for the gravy is cooked 3 different times and it was fine. I wasn't buying that. She offered to replace my meal with anything else on the menu I wanted. I had a waffle with bacon instead. What's up with pink sausage??? How about they just cook it??? I am sorry, but this really upsets me. How can you serve and defend raw sausage?

You might want to go somewhere else to eat. My father got parasites from undercooked roast pork that was slightly pink in the middle when he was young and a guest at someone’s house. He didn’t want to offend the lady who cooked it so he ate it and said nothing. He said the disease was bad enough but the treatment nearly killed him.

This is why I like to cook for myself

@cherokeepatti absolutely, most of these modern ailments are easily avoided, even fixed with proper nutrition.. people would rather pop a pill..I find it baffling

@Stereoguy yes!!
You are a customer and you complained twice. I would call and speak to a manager. Then I would post a review. Businesses need to take better care of customers especially when the costs of eating out are getting ridiculous. Do not give your business to them anymore.

@Stereoguy I couldn't eat pink sausage. You can either take your business elsewhere or choose another meal. You are the customer spending your money. You decide what satisfies you.

it is possible that they are using a lower quality sausage than they did , one where a LOT of dye is added to the final product to keep it presentable. The color sometimes does not cook out well. Still, its very unsettling because I too see pink pork and even when I know better, I can't eat it because, what if?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@nonsensiclesnail they should know better than to use something like that if it stays pink. That’s a red flag either way.
That's terrible, I would not go to a place that undercooks the pork then tries to tell you it's ok.
I do understand the hypnotic pull of sausage gravy though.
So good.....

@robingoodfellow yeah ask the local health dept. person who inspects restaurants if that’s a good practice. All restaurant workers including cooks should have taken a food handler’s class. They talk about how to prevent various kinds of food-borne illnesses in those classes.

Thats nasty. Undercooked pork is dangerous health wise too.

Take one of those skewer thermometers to measure the internal temperature of the sausage. If it is too low then you have concrete evidence. Not only that, you can also stab the waitress 😏

hey obviously don't care enough to fix it .... I would not be going back and would report it .

Pink sausage is definitely a no no

Have they changed the cook?
I would have left the Restaurant then written to the establishment to voice my disapproval.
Might have gotten a free meal out of the experience. 🙂

Well personally I think that pork sausage tends to be pink inside even when cooked 👀 but I'll just trust that you know what a raw sausage looks like lol
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@MartinTheFirst Have you been eating undercooked pork? ;)
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Fungirlmmm no i know what cooked sausage looks like 🤭

This may b why ask them if they buy a different brand than they usually use

Moreover, sausages may contain spices such as paprika or cayenne pepper. These deep red seasonings can give the sausage a pink color that will last even if it's cooked. All in all, as long as you cook your sausages thoroughly, they will be safe to consume, even if they have a pink interior
