My safety procedure for meeting someone from the internet:

There is a farm-shop / café about 1.5 miles from where I live. It is spacious, with tables outside, some under cover for the weather. Plenty of people about.
I suggest meeting there for coffee at 11.30. [My bus will drop me there at 11.15]
There is an hour and a quarter until my bus home; plenty of time to assess my companion, to discover if we are on the same wavelength or not.
Ample time to decide whether or not to accept a lift home.

I have used this procedure twice so far.
In both cases we agreed to part amicably.
A comfortable place to have a second cup of coffee while waiting for the bus home !

I have once to help her with her family history at a battlefield I went to a lot as Willa and posted about here. She came to my area, and we toured the battlefield and two other battlefield sites, and she went home. Strickly as friends and very plutonic. She made a joint post here about it as well once she was back home.

So, yes, I have for that reason. But there are other friends here that when I have all my resources sorted out, I plan on traveling to meet them and their wives' again as friends. But romantically never, and I am not sure it will ever happen.

The meet-up went well! Very nice guy, we talked for a couple of hours over pizza.

I've actually met 3 people off here. Although 2 are no longer active and one I knew a long time before she joined sw.

I have. I've made friends as well as acquaintances. I think talking on the phone is important beforehand to get a real idea if you're meeting up, maybe even a Zoom call. I've had people come to see me play with my band. That was nice, but not a proper meetup.

Absolutely! It would be an honour to meet an online friend. We talk, joke, and discuss TV shows and movies. Doing this in person and getting to know each other better would be an utter delight. A meeting at some public park would be great. We may call it a picnic!😇

There are a few that I've made a good connection with that I might actually meet in person. I did meet up with a person from EP several years ago. We still stay in touch.

I did once, I would again. There's a few friends from here I hope to meet eventually.

During my EP years thats exactly how Vickie and I got together. I paid for the 900 mile trip for her to come here and have our first face to face time together.

I have spoken to two SW members and came very close to meeting them but sadly it never happened

There's only a handful of sw members I'd be willing to meet. And of those few, I doubt any want to meet me. 😅
