World is full of Judgemental people, basically due to the education system. Everyone thinks they know something about everything. Most of them have lost the capacity to hear and listen to what other is trying to say, and just jump to a conclusion predicting what is being addressed. Its very hard to find two people coming to an agreement.
The problem is also due to telephony which is not a good medium for communication. Love the days when telephone calls were pretty expensive, and people resorted to letter writing, in which they cannot show their anger or aggression. But on phone, it is all ego trip .. each trying to dominate the other.

I've just listened to a radio programme about Martin Luther. He was caught in a thunderstorm and vowed to become a monk if he survived. He wrote a letter to his father (who had wanted Martin to become a lawyer) and received an angry and strongly worded reply. his decision to enter the monastery, which he carried out just two weeks after he had taken his vow to St. Anne, was unpopular with many. His father was bitterly disappointed, and conveyed his anger in a letter to him. He also publicly announced that he disowned his son.

@ninalanyon What you did not sense is the time lapse between stages
1. So when did he post the letter to his father ?
2. how long did the letter take to reach his father ?
3. how long did father take to sit down and draft a reply?
4. when did he post it and how many days to later did Luther receive it?
Whereas imagine Martin Luther calling him during the thunderstorm and saying I don't think I will see the tomorrow, and his dad shouting from the other end.
And today we are reading the letter because it was documented. Do we have any such call recordings or would he have recorded the call ?
And finally, the conclusion is now jumping upon you, as to how your mind works when you read something.
This is what I meant by
And did you note that the entire episode between Luther and his father, is quiet communication as against each shouting and screaming at the other and not giving other a chance to say what they came to say or walking away or shutting the ears saying "I am not listening".
But through letters you can see both saying what they came to say fully.

@in10RjFox Quiet communication? Martin's father was so angry that he disowned him not only in the letter but also in public. It took years for them to reconcile.
