How can we ever hope to be able to stop violence in the general population, when we can't even stop people from hitting their kids?

if we can't stop these minor offenses against people who can't defend themselves, how can we prevent any major ones?

I believe that individual adults are likely to either adopt or reject, sometimes vehemently, the behaviors of their parents. The probability either way may be 50% or something else; I don't know. But I have seen that vehement rejection by friends & family members, for example in relation to alcohol, religious conviction, dishonesty, abusive and other antisocial traits. In some cases it may have been a question of which parent - good cop/bad cop - to emulate.

I grew up with enough people (practically everyone in those days) who received physical punishment as children, to know that the suggestion it would make them into violent or cruel adults is absolute, laughable nonsense.

@Really Dude you didn't understand the post.
It's about how we as a society should stop violence when we can't even stop hitting kids.

@Gloomy empathy I guess isn't everyone's strong suite? which is why, I err on the side of science about things that matter. Not people who act like educated just because they studied computers.
