How can we ever hope to be able to stop violence in the general population, when we can't even stop people from hitting their kids?

if we can't stop these minor offenses against people who can't defend themselves, how can we prevent any major ones?

Good question. As they say, "charity begins at home".

Also, it isn't just minor offenses being committed against kids... You can't kick even a dog without expecting it to turn either timid or mean.

@SW-User everything begins at home, including violence, hypocrisy and personality disorders with the exception of psychopathy. Regarding that we don't know yet.

@Jorgillo According to some psychologists' opinions I've read, psychopaths may be born that way.

@SW-User in the case of the dog I would hope it turns mean. Our derranged specie doesn't deserve mercy, if they can't even show mercy to a child.

@SW-User likely because it's not a mental disorder. But Neurological one. Their Amygdala is so small it can't process a whole bunch of emotions that well.

@Jorgillo I get what you're saying. The only problem with the dog turning mean is that it will probably end up being euthanized when the shelter finds they can't rehab it. Shelters are already overwhelmed with vicious dogs.

@Jorgillo Could be.... I do get the feeling that it's an inherited disorder or birth defect, so therefore a physical problem rather than psychological.

@SW-User and sociopaths on the other hand are made by trauma. But this one is where I am speechless, especially when I hear a bunch of teenagers calling themselves sociopaths at 14. When scientists say that that can only be diagnosed after 18, but don't feel comfortable doing it before the age of 25. Since some brains take longer to develop.

@Jorgillo 14 is too young to know. But the kids who call themselves that must think it's cool, for whatever reason. 😳🤨

@SW-User I have actually heared that psychopathy is also genetics. They have what's called the warrior gene. Which is why they constantly feel (depending on the environment they grow up in) as though they are at war with the world. Though it doesn't take psychopathy to feel like that. Waking up to the idiocy that's everywhere is reason enough.
