Why do some hide their age here?

Are we supposed to guess? Is it a game I’m not in on?

They hide their age so that they don't get automatically locked out of the game by preferential age restrictions that we can make in our profile privacy section.

For example, we can choose to NOT interact with people who are under 18 or over 65 by simply checking the appropriate box. Those people within that posted age bracket whom we select will automatically be excluded from our feed.

But if nobody posts their age, or if their age is automatically hidden by choice, the system automatically includes them in everyone's feed regardless of their age.

What you end up with are a collection of 13 year olds who are allowed to be on this website, whom are now interacting with 99 year olds who still remember going to school in a horse-drawn carriage 15 years before WWII got started, with the former having nothing in common with anyone who's old enough to vote, while the latter having nothing in common with anyone under 95 considering everyone their own age is already dead.

Sometimes arguments get started on this website between two people who think they're about the same age despite neither of them posting their age, while one of them is actually very elderly and acts like it, while the other is very young and act like it as well.

Yet neither can figure out why the other is being such a dick all the time because neither post their age beside their username which otherwise would reveal their potential dick factor to all concerned, thereby enabling one to avoid the other for very good reason!

@SandWitch very interesting theory, probably true in many instances
