I Am Fascinated By Human Behavior

Do you think schools, at least to some extent, mostly teach kids how to conform. It seems like they mostly want kids to all think the same way, act the way schools want them to, and learn the same way. Of course some of this is necessary but I've seen a lot of creative, highly imaginative kids lose a lot of that once they start school. It's a shame because the world desperately needs people who know how to think outside the box. School only caters to one kind of intelligence unfortunately.

Its a shame we strayed away from teaching the basics and honing those well into high school. Teachers don't have the creative input in curriculum as they once had since govt stepped in to tell us what to learn.
My heart goes out to the teachers as many are treated like shit.

The Dumbing Down America
is an excellent book.

@BemyValentine what do you consider the basics? That is what the government has been pushing for! The teaching to the test is to be sure the students possess a certain defined minimum skill set. Unfortunately, it does not stress critical thinking, problem solving, etc.
@samueltyler2
Not enough more in depth in these basics -
Math,English grammar, Reading,writing or script,old Latin,Science,
History.
Personally teaching to the test doesn't work if you don't get the above.
Many kids are not held back as they should and even graduate with lack of skills. Years ago,
I taught kids with learning disabilities and behavioral problems - those that get kicked out of public school.
These kids are brilliant yet teaching to the test doesnt work for all of them.

Some should be steered into non-academic areas. We need more skilled workers.
@samueltyler2 I agree. States should have a say so in trade school curriculum.
Many Junior Colleges have taken up trade school curriculum to so call cash and compete
with Tech or Trade Schools.

Not every child should get a bachelor's degree.
@samueltyler2 True. I was fortunate to learn from both College and Tech/Trade school🤗

@BemyValentine what do you do? Have you used both educations? I guess one might consider medical school as a trade school.
