What do you make of people here who just post news stories?

Do they nothing to say about their own lives? And why do I need their tilt on the news when I can get if for myself?

They are virtue signaling.

Posting news stories that reflect their beliefs and looking for validation and like minded people
LadyShagw0rthy · 36-40, F
@SumKindaMunster Yes that’s how I feel about them too.

Thier dime so to speak

They are worrying. The world order is disturbed.

it's just a perfect example of democracy in action! freedom of expression includes freedom of condemnation, praise, or prophecy. It is considered good practice to cite sources when providing a verbatim copy of someone else's work, naturally.
I don't pay any mind to them
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
Who are these terrible people forcing their views on you?
LadyShagw0rthy · 36-40, F
@MoveAlong I dinybyjink they’re terrible. Just odd.

For me it reminds me that things are still happening out there, which is rarely good, so with people here posting about those things there's always an outrage sentiment, which is either commendable, or reprehensible, the latter being an example of how I see error being propounded and expanded, and the prior as reinforcement that fosters a sense of communal woe about the state of things.

A surprisingly huge segment of society do not read anything factual in the way of news. Instead they sit and suck in anything FOX NOISE tells them.....or think news is the conspiracy theories they hear.....or they just make up shit as they go because :"this is what I want to believe". Maybe occasional news posts aren't so bad. At least now and then those people are exposed to something truthful.

@anythingoes477 There are books that are objective about Iran.

Both by Michael Axworthy:

Empire of the Mind
A history from Zoroaster to the Present Day.

Revolutionary Iran
A history of the Islamic Republic

Showing their superiority especially when you disagree with their opinions
@pdockal See? You toss accusations without evidence supporting data. Take this post as example.

@pdockal We're seeing an example in the discussion involving strict gram beneath the mr smooth comment

It's a debate over the FACTS of Obama's 2015 JCPOA agreement. I'm providing details and links to sources while you are only providing insults. SAD!
I suppose it's an improvement on people who just post memes

Yeah, I just scroll past them all
I get my news sources elsewhere
I don’t really give it much thought. Their prerogative to post what they want, my prerogative to scroll on by. Besides the fact that some people come here to get a break from their own lives. I frequently include myself in that category.
@LadyShagw0rthy I can only speak for myself, but I learn a lot from people discussing the current events in countries where I don’t live, and while I could seek out and read it for myself, I probably wouldn’t. I also have concerns about the state of my own country, and enjoy discussing that. This may not serve your purposes, but it’s a huge world !

Different strokes for different folks, as we said back in the day. 😉
@LadyShagw0rthy whether you read it here or read it on another site, you're still "reading it for yourself" so this seems a wee bit like quibbling over semantics

I'm merely curious, how often did you typically encounter the same news stories elsewhere that you also saw posted here after you'd already read them?

Conversely, how many times did you encounter stories which you had not already been aware of?

You can always just mute people who you think post too many news stories
LadyShagw0rthy · 36-40, F
@SnickersDOM Generally here you get the same news stories that have already by made available elsewhere, the only addition is the poster puts a doesn’t in it promote their own political views.

Why people seem to be so desperate to appear informed and authoritative while simultaneously boasting their bias is beyond me.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
I think people have always had conversations about current events that affect us, or amuse us, or make us wonder about things.

Sometimes I post, sometimes I engage

And if I'm not interested I just keep scrolling
LadyShagw0rthy · 36-40, F
@Pretzel It seems like it’s rarely a conversation. More like a broadcast. If you have an alternative opinion you get ignored or trolled.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
@LadyShagw0rthy oh I guess I've already blocked THOSE people :)
I think there's room for posts about current events and posts about very private stuff. I usually don't care about someone's private stuff tbh. Why judge? If I'm not interested in a topic I just don't read it.
I feel the way I do about most topics here; if it interests me I engage, if not, I keep scrolling.
And some forums I block. That way I see less of the topics that I find useless, like organized religion.

they life must be extremely lonely, depressed, and pathetic...i post on a wide variety of topics and see what gets most activity.

Iran war updates: Tehran rejects Trump’s ‘helpless, nervous’ ultimatum
LadyShagw0rthy · 36-40, F
@Ferise1 I can read that for myself. Do you have anything else to say?
