Every Child Warm

@HootyTheNightOwl There are intolerant campaigns against many groups of people and many areas of public spending that are deemed to be "wasteful". The greatest achievement of this givernment to date is to lift the two child cap on universal benefit. By the end of this parliament an estimated half a million children will be lifted out of official measures of poverty. What a huge gain for society you would think. Yet at least two parties are already committed to reinstating that cap.

For what it's worth, I would make any savings required from the welfare budget from state pensions which account for 55% of expenditure. Remove the triple lock guarantee and means test if necessary. I find it morally indefensible to pay £12K a year to millionaires while making families homeless and leaving vulnerable people below the poverty line. The state pension is unsustsinable in an ageing society. It needs to be reformed so there will still be some level of support for future generations of pensioners.

@SunshineGirl The thing with doing that with pensions is that the wrong people feel the impact the most. The middle class elderly who aren't poor enough to qualify for state pension - but also don't bring enough in from their investments/private pensions to live comfortably either.

Maybe we could look at large companies like Amazon, JD Sports etc??? How much tax do they pay in relation to their income per annum... I'm sure it won't be proportionate. If we tax them more fairly, that could go towards propping up the disabled and lowest earners.
