I look forward to the day when

white is just another skin colour, and English is just another language.

We are on the way there; my country is becoming more multicultural all the time. :)

Really? Like with English speakers in the USA today??

Things might go the other way! Remember the Babel Fish, a living automatic translator from the fictional universe of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.”

@SW-User yes precisely. and i wouldnt put so much faith in a work of fiction

@Penny English speakers on the USA are horribly divided along political religious and racial lines. It doesn't work.

@SW-User more are friends and coworkers and such

@Penny Being friends and coworkers does not require linguistic uniformity.
It's not about who is better. It's about blending in where you move. @Penny

@SW-User really it does
SW-User
@Penny Well no, in my experience it doesn't. As they used to say on the internet, however, YMMV...

@SW-User well i guess it would depend on the job but if communication is necessary how would you get anything done if you couldnt communicate effectively or be like friends.

@Penny If people speak a number of different languages they can also communicate effectively. Depending on context, those who know more than one of the languages involved can translate back and forth; people can also figure a lot out by gestures and empathy. I know at least one long-lasting couple who got together when neither knew the other's language (and that was before google translate and such!)
