List something that restored your faith (in something).
Yesterday, I wrote about my outdoor gig with my band at the football tailgate party. We played under a tent, away from the parked cars.
When I got there, I pulled up to the spot to unload. It was raining, so no one was in a hurry, especially with electrical equipment like guitar amps and PA equipment. A lady security guard came over, admonishing me. "You can't park here! Move! Move! Move! Now!!" Yikes. I explained to her that I was unloading, so, grimacingly, she let me stay for the moment, and I moved up so a small bus could enter. Every 5 minutes, the lady reappeared to re-yell at me, but eventually (I'm guessing) she got preoccupied with something else. And I kept my car there. Ha.
While I was drumming, I also had a mic for backing vocals. At one point, the organizer of the tailgate party needed to be summoned, and one of the partygoers came up to the mic but didn't talk directly in it, so I mentioned the guys name "Steve, white courtesy phone! Steve, white courtesy phone!" to some amused chuckles. Then I said, "Give me Ham on 5, hold the Mayo!", a line from the movie Airplane!, which made one guy laugh and point out, "Heyyy! Airplane!!", which I was so happy about; to connect with the audience is SO important.
We played our classic rock and R&B set to some nice applause....then security lady showed up at the end. "You guys sound REALLY good! I really enjoyed that." She had totally kicked down into another, much nicer, gear. I did not expect anything like a compliment from her. But then it dawned on me: music can really bring people together in a way that very few things can. She had literally let her hair down! It gave me a nice, warm feeling.
Name something that happened to you to restore your faith in things. It can be anything. Go! :)
