Why do people say us Texans have a accent?

So the other day I went shopping and the guy working at the cash register said your Texas accent is cute? I laughed and said what accent? He was from Detroit. Anyways when I talk to my husband or other people I don't hear anything. Has anyone else come to Texas and think the same thing about us?

I'm from deep south ga and the way folks up here in Tennessee look at me when I talk is fucking hilarious..

Texan here living in Colorado. I get told every once in a while that I'll let my accent slip into a Southern one. I have no idea otherwise. I can't hear it myself. But I guess there's something there that people pick up on when you talk to them. It's amusing.

I had a coworker from Boston who I had no idea he was from there until I heard him pronounce garlic. He said it gahlic. It was trippy. Some things are just dead giveaways

there is a pretty distinct accent for texas. one for most places; the midwest is normally thought of by most americans as having very little accent.

I have a Tennessean accent but because I've lived in the north for the past few years, when I go home, people say it's northern.
It's a stereotype. But every state has some sort of accent and a different way of saying things.

Everyone has a accent to a point
-_- I never even realized I had one
@DidIHurtYourFeelings: I was told I had an accent by an English or French person before. (I can't remember which) I couldn't believe that thought people from the state I lived in had accents, let alone the country. But like I said each state is a bit different than the next.
