Why do people say us Texans have a accent?

So the other day I went shopping and the guy working at the cash register said your Texas accent is cute? I laughed and said what accent? He was from Detroit. Anyways when I talk to my husband or other people I don't hear anything. Has anyone else come to Texas and think the same thing about us?

Texan here living in Colorado. I get told every once in a while that I'll let my accent slip into a Southern one. I have no idea otherwise. I can't hear it myself. But I guess there's something there that people pick up on when you talk to them. It's amusing.

I had a coworker from Boston who I had no idea he was from there until I heard him pronounce garlic. He said it gahlic. It was trippy. Some things are just dead giveaways
