Why do some of you consider "Woke" as an insult? It just means being alert to injustice. THAT'S A GOOD THING lmao

You might as well be trying to insult someone by calling them an abolitionist lol.

The people that think woke is bad are the same people that think abolitionists ARE bad.
@canusernamebemyusername

lol some of them.
That's the thing. People who reckoned that black folks were less than human would have called people who thought black folks deserved human rights "woke".

@canusernamebemyusername @Pikachu exactly, the same happens in certain uneducated crowds where being book smart and using more sophisticated words is ridiculed and seen as pretentious where its really that being smart makes dumb people feel dumb so they become defensive. "woke" people make conservatives look morally bankrupt so they try to retaliate to maintain the status quo they so need.
@reflectingmonkey

That's actually an interesting comparison.
I myself have been criticized for using a vocabulary which outstrips that of my counterpart and that can only be a reflexive attack from insecurity,
I think it may be that same reflex which causes some far right folks to cry "woke!" as an insult.
Knowledge isn't effective in a conservative oligarchy.
Torsten · 36-40, M
because it is a insult
@Torsten

Well that's what it means to be woke. It's just a sensitivity to inequality and social justice.
But people more close-minded than yourself have decided that any pushback against the status quo is woke and woke is bad.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@Pikachu that might be your definition of it but its just not correct or I should say its not how the majority of people see it
@Torsten

Definition of woke (Entry 1 of 2)
chiefly US slang
: aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)

I don't know what abolitionist is.
@FloorGenAdm

Back in the day it was people who were trying to abolish slavery in the US.
