Have you ever given a decent amount of money to a beggar?

I don't mean coins from your pocket, a banknote

Yes, I was in San Francisco using my English accent to flirt with someone in a bar. We got outside waiting for a taxi, and I was trying to convince her to come back to my hotel. A guy came up to us and said if we gave him a little money he'd write a poem about us with our names in, so I drunkenly agreed.

I can't remember the poem but it was great, but when I looked in my pocket I only had $20 so he got the whole thing.

She did come back to the hotel room though so I think everyone was happy with the night 😋
@CheshireCatalyst a romantical pickpocket poet 😂

@SStarfish the only good poets 🤣
I'd prefer to give something of immediate comfort. A meal and hot coffee, blanket or long coat. Something that warms the heart as much as the pocketbook.

Though if I do give money, a bill allows you to do so much more.
I don't judge, don't care what they buy with it. It's enough that they're happy for a few moments of a day.

Last winter I walked up the road on a bitter night. I was bundled, toasty warm.

An older man in a thin nylon windbreaker stood hunched, over the handle of his shopping cart. Worldly possessions in tow.
Head down, clutching, kicked at the asphalt quietly; begging the bitter wind to stop.
I'd left a house of warmth, love and security. I wanted for nothing.

The image remained with me.
Though I'd no money, I was rich in the things he had lost, but couldn't give him.
Defeated, as he was; I walked on.
Once i gave money to a woman collecting for cancer but she ran off as soon as i gave it to her.. I think she was just collecting for her own pocket.. Which is my general bias of so called charities nowadays (they ask you to give money for some great cause or other but they keep the money themselves)
I gave a man $50 right before Christmas. He wasnt begging, but I know he lives in his van with his dog. I watched him walk to 3 different trash cans in a grocery store parking lot trying to find one that wasnt over flowing so he could throw away his bag of chips. For some reason that really hit me. He didnt have to do that. There would have been no consequences had he just dropped the bag. He did it because it was the right thing to do. And that's the same reason why I gave him money. Now when I see his van around town I try to leave a $10 gas card on the windshield for him.
@Pocketrockets22 thanks, I just try to do the right thing ❤

No I haven't and I am not sure I would
I prefer to give to charities who help the homeless.

@MrAverage1965 So much of the monies goes to the costs the charity incurs
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
@MickieSee that's very true but here we have a problem with people pretending to be homeless or just spending the money they get on drink and drugs
MickieSee · 26-30, F
@MrAverage1965 I think that's true everywhere

Not a beggar, but a street person.

I've given homeless $20's before. One year I bought the Christmas dinner shopping for one person.

I gave $5.00 to a total stranger on Christmas. He grabbed my arm and wanted more.
