I doubt it. I can't speak from experience, but my guess is that the constant contact will lead to feelings of understanding and comfort that pave the way for deeper, more romantic feelings. It's hard to develop that with people these days.
It's possible they spend the entire time just enduring the tension, but the chances that they both turn down the possibility of romance is slim.
