With many people I am skeptical, also when they say they are "free spirits". I've heard a lot of people claim these things but reality and their own actions show otherwise.

@Magenta I mean I can accept that people can be cautious and hold onto some of their own beliefs, values, and ideals...but that doesn't mean they can't be open minded and at least listen to what others have to say. Being open-minded doesn't mean you have to like or agree with everything, nor does it mean you have to accept it or take part in it yourself. But it does mean acknowledging that others have different beliefs, ideas, and feelings toward things than you do and accept that. That's my take on it anyway.

@indyjoe So well stated. I like your definition. :-)
I think "open minded" can actually be narrow and subjective sometimes. Many times it means 'I am open' as long as I agree with you or you agree with me. It can sometimes mean a person doesn't have strong views on a subject.
I tend to like broad-minded thinking, which doesn't judge something beforehand. But that is hard for human nature to do..
