When Did This Thing Called "Ghosting" Become A Thing?

Whatever happened to telling the person concerned I've had enough, see ya I'm off!
I'm hearing it mentioned more and more.

I know and that is why whenever in a conversation with a person here, I always let them know when I have to sign off and do something else. I can't speak for other's obviously or control their conduct, just mine.
