Do You Think We Are Becoming Less Tolerant In General As Time Goes On?

It depends on the timeframe you are looking at. Are we more tolerant than ten years ago? Maybe not so much. Are we more tolerant than twenty years ago? I think so. Are we more tolerant than sixty years ago? There's no doubt.

I think Satanburger was correct that we are socially evolving to be more tolerant as we learn more. As communication tools like the internet allow barriers to shrink and disappear. As we find out that we have loved ones impacted by intolerance. And so on. There are more people today with friends in foreign nations than at any point in history since nations were constructed. It was only twenty years ago that US military service people could not express themselves as gay due to 'don't ask don't tell'.

And that in a desperate bid for relevance and to try to normalize their own behaviors, the intolerant are becoming increasingly vocal. As Ontheroad notes, the internet has become a tool for them to find and reinforce each other. A way to help them hide the fact that their population is shrinking by creating an ever louder echo chamber.

The line of progress is rarely straight in the positive direction. There are setbacks now and again and we're living through some presently. But so long as we keep fighting, history tends to favor us over the long term. So whatever you do, don't give up.
