To What Degree Have You Actually Controlled The Course Your Life Has Taken?

Umile · 41-45, F
A lot of it.

I react badly compared to others.

But, then again, I was built and raised different.

However, I chose my path.

So, it makes sense.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Umile we all choose the paths we take, sometimes those choices turn out to be wrong, sometimes right.
Umile · 41-45, F
@Northwest nature, nurture. It can set your path in life.
Umile · 41-45, F
@Northwest True. Good point.

I'm just saying that some people are dealt a bad hand from the get. You can't do much with it. But, you can choose to change it.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
That's such an interesting question. There are so many things that none of us can control--from the circumstances we were born into, to the events of the world around us. to the actions of those we know and love. I have been very fortunate in most ways, but also unfortunate in some difficult ones. I can't control that, but I can control how I respond to the situations I'm in and the opportunities I have. So that's how I focus my efforts and my attitude. "Play the hand you're dealt" as the poker saying goes. Or "You might as well be a mensch", as my grandmother used to say.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Harmonium1923 exactly, well said ! 👍
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
We have some control,but not everything is within our control.
There can be a fine line between accepting our own decisions consequences and being in despair over it.
Going forward and not letting the past dictate the now,I believe,would be the most useful of lessons if life has not been what someone wishes it was.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Justmeraeagain i agree with that Rae.
Most of the things that I could control …

I have been good at deciding, taking action and most importantly, realizing and accepting the things that I had no control over, which I think should be considered as part of controlling my life .. 🌸🌸
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Soossie so important an totally get that.
I married my husband, chose not to divorce him, and went to college and quit work. But my son was sick so I felt I had no choice but to take care of him - not that I didn't want to.
@Spoiledbrat I quit work after college btw. I worked and went to college. It was hard.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Spoiledbrat you've certainly put the work into it..👍
exexec · 61-69, C
I have controlled most of it. Many times I have taken Yogi Berra's advice: "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@exexec you seem to be ok on it.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Primnproper Most of my choices have been the correct ones.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@exexec well done you!
Little, I've been in the passenger seat way to much
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Justafantasy hahaha..yeah I know that feeling.😁
@Primnproper now one of your other posts made me want dr Hook. Since I'm at home time to log off here for the night
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Justafantasy Enjoy the rest of your night. Goodnight.👍
It’s just been trying to avoid the potholes but falling into in the muddy ditches.

I married a farmers daughter and she converted me
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@HumanEarth so she was in the drivers seat..
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
No, not exactly.

But I was surrounded by farms and I needed to make quick cash when I moved here.

So, I took to farming like I belong here. It just matched me so perfectly.

No factory job or having a small home improvement business could fill that void that was missing in me.

I think God wanted her to find me at that mall on that day.

Because that's the day my life changed forever and for the better
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@HumanEarth awe.. I love you guys! Good for you!🤗
robertsnj · 56-60, M
I think we all have some control but not a lot. What country your born in, how much wealth your parents had, the genes you inheriet from them all drastiically affect your life but you don't have control over it.

But some of it, like how you do at your job, how your act at home, your health habits do impact your life outcome and in some ways it is sad to people squander those opportunies.

@Northwest no hesitation..
Northwest · M
no hesitation..

At the Macro level, people have no control. I can't prevent an earthquake, or a meteor strike, or a WW-III. So I don't take it into the equation.

At the Micro level, it's all about me, and as such, I am in total control, and we all are. Even when we're forced to make a decision, as individuals, we are the ultimate decision makers and by doing so, we control our lives.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Northwest thank you for the explanation and input.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
Very little.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 life takes us where it wants us.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper Yes it does
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Rizz2k23 thats a good percentage.
Rizz2k23 · 22-25, M
@Primnproper it’s only recently I’ve gained that much control
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@Rizz2k23 That's great then..
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@ABCDEF7 mmmm...interesting can life know what is best for each individual?
@Primnproper You will get to know from your own first hand experiences, and you will naturally get inclined towards what best suits you.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@ABCDEF7 ok yes that makes sense..
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
Pretty minimally. A lot of stuff has happened that has been completely out of my control and it has affected my life in ways that are extremely difficult if not impossible to work through.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Very small, i realized i have people watching over me from the other side death. Everything I have accomplished is because something wanted me to.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@empanadas awe.. that must be a nice feeling. I remember feeling that when I was in school.
