Why do a lot of men have high IQs and low common sense?

I have very high common sense but only moderate IQ. I work in railways so strongly embedded common sense safety culture is a major factor in everything I do as a shiftworker for the last 33 years.

I scored very high in the NSW HSC when I did year 12 at high school in 1986 (could have got into any course at any university in Australia) but went to uni to do electrical engineering and burnt myself out by the 3rd year. I abandoned tertiary education to which I've never returned.

As I write about fairly often, socially I'm completely inept and I'm terrible with everything to do with sex/dating/intimacy/relationships plus I don't have or see any need to have friends and do not socialise with anyone from my work outside of work.

It's how you define IQ.

Some people are a mile deep, and an inch wide, and some are 9/10th of a mile deep, and 1/2 mile wide. The latter is real IQ, the former is "specialization", leaving no room for other skills.

Such IQ are usually on one subject and these men are just focused on that particularly subject that they don't care about rest.

Maybe you're referring to the enslavement of the right brain by the controller on the left side.

They think a high IQ includes common sense, which is why they grunt when long car part words are used.

Because we are men not always the smartest species in life🤔

Intelligence and wisdom are separate.

Not me, I score poorly in both these areas.

Seriously, that’s true for a lot of [b]people[/b], not just men. Having access to rote facts doesn’t necessarily translate to having social skills. It’s a different type of intelligence.
