Like religion, I've had times in my life when I regularly donated to charities but for the most part pretty much all charities are commercialised scams and the ways in which those orgs try to solicit donations (charity muggers, unsolicited door knocking, saturation advertising on TV, and more) really makes the idea of donating money when things are already very difficult hard to think positive about.
I bought my house at age 56 just over a year ago so all spare money goes to that and providing for me and my daughter. That is my own 'charity'.
One of the companies I worked for about 10 years ago has an equally toxic 'workplace giving' culture where you are made to feel unworthy if you don't donate to causes that the corporate wonks deem worthy. The toxicity around this is extra-spicy because the same company is infected with hardcore DEI policies and flouts it's lgbtiq 'alphabet agenda' credentials constantly.

Kiva.org. A global microfinance operation that offers people a hand up, rather than a handout. I often stand a new loan instead of sending flowers to a funeral. And once the loan is repaid you get to choose someone else to lend the same cash to.😷

Make a Wish and the Ronald McDonald house because my Aunt stayed there when my cousin was in a coma after a really bad car accident

Most of them are scams. I'd rather sponsor individuals directly.
