I know I am cranky and old but

is anybody else over the cashier asking if you'd like to make a donation to X?
(X being whatever donation they are collecting for)

Seems like all the fast food places I go to are asking - the grocery store and drug store are now.

And I'm also wondering if when we make the donation - are the stores claiming the tax credit for the donations?

Then the company writes the charity a check and gets the deduction

@MarineBob that figures. then they don't have to pay a cent to get thousands in deductions

Has to be something in it for them otherwise why would they care ?

That last line is a really good question.

My self checkout at the grocery store asks me to round up. I do when it’s like 19.78 but not when it’s like 19.02

Just say "nah, I just donated". They know what they are doing is emotionally manipulative, so as far as I'm concerned there is no need for me to maintain honesty

Depending upon the cause, I don't mind it, especially the round it up donations.

We don't have that over here yet. It's on the self checkouts at Asda though.

I always say no. Even if it's for children's cancer. No. Everybody is asking for a tip. No.

Yeah I hate that. Even saw this appear when I bought petrol the other week!
