I know I am cranky and old but

is anybody else over the cashier asking if you'd like to make a donation to X?
(X being whatever donation they are collecting for)

Seems like all the fast food places I go to are asking - the grocery store and drug store are now.

And I'm also wondering if when we make the donation - are the stores claiming the tax credit for the donations?
