I Don't Understand Catfishes

Is there anyone that can explain to me what the draw is to being a Catfish? I recently found out that a friend of two years (not from here or EP) is not who "he" said "he" was. Due to a slip up on his part, I was able to get very solid proof about this too. Of course, she denies it, which I'm not surprised about.

So, what's the pay off? We were just friends. If this person were honest with me, I still would have been friends with her.

I just don't get it.

I think a lot of it is people who are socially inadequate and maybe have mental health problems too.

I think its pretty rare for a female to catfish as a male, it usually the other way around. Or just anyone catfishing as someone who needs money ..

@Pherick: She's from a game, so no pics would be sent. It would appear that the entire story (or a majority of it) of her life is true. So, not sure why the gender switch.

@Pherick: Yes. The character is male. Although, I've met many "males" on there who will tell me they are female. That's so they don't get hit on in game.

I've dealt with the "changed nicknames but same person" quite a bit. I usually figure those out quickly because I have a good memory and they never change their information lol. I did get one who was a he/she and they were able to fool me for a few weeks before I caught on. It's a lousy thing to do no matter what.
