Catfish selfie posts creep me out

I always think this poor girl is out there somewhere with no clue someone is pretending to be her. It's like a form of identity theft.

I had a male friend here that shared pics with me. Not smutty ones, ones of himself, his family. Lovely ones from when he was a kid, with his mum.
After 5 years friendship, i hadnt hadnt heard from him for months. Dunno why I'd never done it before but i imaged searched the latest pic. It came from an Insta acc. A guy with a very similar name with thousands of followers.... a bit of an entreprenure, not short of a few quid! Was this actually him?? I went through the pics and found all the ones he'd sent me over the years.
I messaged the guy on Instagram. He was gracious enough to chat with me and it was clear he didn't know who I was. I told him someone here was using his pics, even ones of his family. He asked for details of the account and email i had for the person which i gave him.
I dont know if he took any action.
I reported the profile here and SW put a warning on the profile....but it remained up and (at that time) active.
I also found on that insta profile a photo another friend here had sent me. A mutual friend who knew the guy in RL.... indicating to me they were infact the same person.

@RubySoo This is why I'm ask for a picture, when chatting privately, one that meets certain criteria, like touching there side with a finger,or something just as silly...99.9% of the time, they say no..hence the distrust continues whether accounts in here are real

@HotPizza71 i get that, but to be honest, i don't care what someone looks like to talk to them. Im not hooking up. So its not important to me in the grand scheme of things.
But anyway, after this experience, I wont ever get so involved with anyone online again.

@RubySoo conversations with new people,is what we're here for,but like your experience of chatting to someone, who wasn't when willing to self real pics of themselves,is kinda what I don't want. To waste my time chatting with people who can't prove who they are

@HotPizza71 to chat with new people here? Wow! Does that still happen?? Lol.
Coz for me, if a new person messages me and asks for 'proof' i'm whon say i am.... thats the end of that! Its different if the connection, friendship is already established. ..and i get where yr coming from then, once yr invested. Mind you...seeing someone can change ones mind about the nature of the friendship too. I sent pics to guys (not smutty ones) and suddenly, its like i've given them permission to get leary andvtell ne what they'd do to me given the chance.
Also the opposite has happened when the clearly weren't impressed and what i'd thought of as a budding fun friendship was stopped in its tracks.
I can still remember you stopping talking with me after swapping a pic years ago!! Lol. Ouch!!!!

@RubySoo I come and go...plus I may have thought we weren't getting along maybe..chats have to click with two people...I didn't realise I'd done that anyway, the stop talking..in that way..
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@HotPizza71 of course not everyone clicks. I often decide not to carry on talking to people, especially people who try to lead conversations in directions i dont wanna go!
