Lets be honest. All perversion is more or less mental illness. Posing as what you are not deceptively or not is perverse.
And the more you indulge in it the more mentally ill you become.

And the more you argue the point the more the proof.

@GoldenOldie By whatever means a term becomes commonly used for a notable number of bad actors (no pun intended) the term becomes well known.

I'll forge a few here since there seems to be a need, now that you mention it.

In this case most understand what catfish means: a person who for what unknown motives, pretends as the opposite of their real sex.

Those who under state their age on a social web site. [bhagfish[/b] claim they're younger than they are

We can recycle chickenhawk way too older than they are.

While hagbaggers, incels, nightryders, simps, pirates, posers, geezers, OF dummies, fleecerz, and trolls can stay what they are

People may exaggerate or lie about their well being in real life. They don't need the internet to pull that off with people who do not actually know them.
Even when we can see them. That kind of person already have names and some of the ones above are well established in the lists above.

We call them , depending on their ways, unflattering names because it's deserved but more importantly because their wrong is clearly explained in the name.

A fish pretending to be a cat is obviously a stupid animal risking being destroyed and outed by any truly self actualized cat with a full cat brain in its head. Lol

@SteelHands doesn’t have to be opposite sex, on MTV catfish it’s routinely a woman pretending to be younger or attractive because they have self-esteem in the toilet. A lot of them get validation and acknowledgment via their fakes - most probably have more complex personalities than simple confidence, body-image, depression ~ they don’t get this picked up, or don’t seek mental health treatment.

Although a lot could be described as ugly, obese or socially awkward ~ there’s a hell of a lot of people struggling with worse versions that don’t deceive others online.

Maunchausens by Internet, undiagnosed BPD/EUPD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder or other disorders like even schizophrenia or split personality disorder would fit a few.

They never seem to care about the fact they are fooling a person for their own validation and ego smoothing. Maybe they have shitty lives and use that to justify their behaviour~ low empathy/sociopath traits. It must give them a thrill to fool people and become an addiction they can’t break away from so ultimately they fool themselves and don’t have a lot of insight to realise the time is wasted and their online relationships are as fake as they are.

No one wants to date a fake. Hell if I had a GF and she fessed up about catfishing dudes in the past I would red flag 🚩 dump ‘em straight away - too much drama to handle even if it’s in the past 😂 a lot of guys/girls would too. Bad or worse sign than a cheater lol

@SteelHands I read the words, but, but, but what do they mean? All that made sense was some weird homophobic, sexist word-soup agenda that looked like a bot programmed by a toddler with a fever wrote. Very little point in continuing the "discussion"
