It's true for certain people

@Subsumedpat why is catfishing worse for women? for example on this site its mostly men pretending to be women and chatting up other men

@Torsten It is just my guess but I said it is worse because I think they get catfished more than men do.

@SW-User When it is done for money then I would think you are correct that it has little to do with gender and more to do with greed. But online I do think the numbers will bear out that more men get a kick out of catfishing then do women, just like you will see more men pretending to be women on here than women men. I have no way to know this for sure my views are anecdotal rather than research.

@SW-User I think often times it is just to get attention they can't seem to get otherwise, others it might be to feed a fetish, or they get a kick out of messing with other peoples feelings.

@Subsumedpat I guess it's more to do with the latter..there are some sadistic people who derive pleasure from someone's pain
