It saddens me that in many parts of the world
It is illegal and dangerous to be a gender or sexual minority. Consequences include death ( whether by the state death penalty or getting beaten and killed by the local population), prison sentences, being disowned from families, “corrective” rape, mistreatment and harassment/abuse, discrimination in education, employment/business, healthcare, housing, etc. ( discrimination still occurs in the United States to an alarming extent but it’s not as bad as other countries. Also conversion therapy is still allowed in many states but also that in other countries. Being lgbtqia is seen as an abomination in these other countries. There is so much hatred and disgust. The United States is not perfect for lgbtqia+ people but it’s better than many countries. The best places to be lgbtqia are northern and Western Europe, Canada, and so on. All I’m saying even though the United States still has a long way to go, the state is not actively persecuting sexual minorities. Gender minorities like trans affirming care for youth is a different story in red states. Even if you don’t agree with being lgbtqia it’s not acceptable.to be unkind to people who are human beings and deserving of love and compassion like anyone else. Basic respect and dignity as gender and sexual minorities is important and this is why luckily in the blue and purple states( like NV) we have laws that state wise provide some form of protection. That’s not to say occasionally these laws can’t be abused and misused by someone under a protected category but generally these laws are a good thing. Granted they can’t protect from every instance of bullying or discrimination. But it’s better than nothing. We wouldn’t need these laws for protection if the world was a kinder more accepting place. I think enough people don’t set out to oppress gender and sexual minorities today in the United States but there is a significant minority that does. I want to believe the greater majority of people in the United States are more live and let live in attitude. It’s ok to ask questions and to not understand being in the queer community but I think it’s never acceptable. To mistreat someone for being queer. Anyway just thought I would share…
