I wish we had the social progress of today

With the costs of things such as childcare, education, healthcare, housing, transportation, food and groceries, etc. at the prices they were during the 1950s-1970s. Even college at private universities was only several thousand a year. Today’s cost of living is a rip off. I mean can you imagine being able to afford college on a part time job from the summer or one income could afford a house, groceries, a car etc. with little to no debt. Even in the early 1980s say for example private college in total was $3,000-$10,000 tuition. That’s a steal today. It seems like the 1980s and 1990s were when education funding was being cut and people started relying more on privatized federal loans. With everything being so expensive, people wonder why others are so anxious and uncertain about their futures. Add a saturated career market and job market with depending on the major college graduates not being able to readily find employment in the fields they studied for despite having bachelors and masters degrees. For example, my sister has two degrees one in criminal justice and one in psychology and she is working at a cafe. Personal training several clients at a gym and the cafe. She used to work in cafes before she got her degrees and other part time minimum wage jobs. It’s just sad. Though she tries her best she is unfulfilled and sometimes miserable. A criminal justice degree not being able to get a job ? Seriously? Employers want experience for supposedly entry level roles like two years that’s mid level not entry level.

I know there are some markets that will not be easily saturated which includes language jobs like translation& interpretation, working with written/audio/video media, technology and design, some legal like stenography, medical, animal/elder/child care, I think many stem careers like science and engineering, skill trades ( hvac, welding, carpentry, electrician etc.) and more at least for now. Ironically enough if my sister followed her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian she would certainly have a job as a vet tech or other animal caretaking professional while she trained for veterinary school but as a young teen she went to my cousins. Veterinary practice to watch a surgery on a dog and she couldn’t handle it and she knew being a vet was not for her.

Also back many decades ago I could get by on a part time job but there was no remote work like today. But maybe I could have had a job with later hours and a flexible schedule just not remote work. I am not certified or trained in anything in particular, but that has to change. I need to finish vocational courses already paid for by my parents and enroll in more vocational courses with certificates of completion and diplomas. I also want to finish a bachelors and masters degree. At the very minimum finish my bachelors in a related field to my vocational courses. I will have to see about my masters degree. I wish I could get health insurance and a pension paid by an employer for part time hours like they do in for example France, Germany, and Japan. Japan is a notorious workaholic culture though. While the USA used to be full of opportunities, some countries do it better when it comes to workers protections and rights.
