And if you wanna get all pedantic about the legitimacy of the colours, indigo has been recently dropped from the rainbow as its not really physically visable and is a subset of violet.
The only reason it
was included in the
first place is that Newton was a bit of a spiritual nut and liked the symbolic value of "7" and thus claimed the rainbow was made of 7 colours.
If you wanna get all scientific - its actually made of a continuous blend of potentially infinite colours - of which we, as humans, can only pick up about 6 or so within the tiny visible spectrum we actually see.
(Which is less rhan 1% of what's really there)
