Not a particularly recent one, but my grandparents living in Poland refused to get connected to mains water even after the end of the Cold War because they believed the Russians were putting contraceptive drugs into the water supply. Quite why that would have been of immediate concern to octogenarians is beyond me 🤔 Anyhow it meant that I had to take baths in a horse trough 🥶
